Umpleby's Bakery & Café

I was checking the weather report for next week and it looks like the thermometer will be solidly in the 70’s and maybe even high 60’s.  That means one thing in the kitchen – fire up the soup pots – soup will be coming to the cafe!   We will start offering soup for the season starting this monday, September 21st.    Welcome Soup (with a fresh baked roll as well!)

As the name of the holiday suggests,  we will be closed on Labor Day so that all of us laborers here at the bakery-cafe can have a day off.

My Australian wife, Carolyn is taking the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America today at the courthouse in Rutland.  She will finally, after living here in the US for over 15 years, no longer be considered a resident alien.  She will be an American citizen.   I mention this as a lot of the food we do here at the cafe is Australian influenced as I lived there in Melbourne for about a year.  Please be assured that we will continue to make meat pies and sausage rolls!

She said she is looking forward to going to Town Meeting in the spring. And she is also looking forward to voting in the presidential election too!  I’m wondering if this is just the beginning and public office is really what she is after!
