Umpleby's Bakery & Café

I have a cake on order for tomorrow and it is one that I have never done before.  It is for an expectant mother.  The neat thing about this cake is what the expectant mother asked us to do.  She doesn’t know the gender of the baby and the way she wants to find out is by cutting our cake and seeing what kind of filling we put in it.  It will be raspberry mousse if it’s a girl and pastry cream and blueberries if it is a boy.  We are receiving a sealed envelope from the hospital today with the news of the gender and we will make the cake accordingly.  I am honored that the expectant mother chose us as the bakers to be involved with this very special surprise!

After seeing the parade come by for lunch or pick up some sandwiches or cookies for your picnic.  Happy Memorial Day!

Tonight marks the last broadcast of The David Letterman Show so to honor the funny man our Sandwich Special today is The David Letterman-  It is Grilled Roast Beef and Swiss Cheese with caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and garlic herbed mayo.  $8.00

I was lucky enough to see him at the Ed Sullivan theater many years ago when I was working in NYC.  It was in the winter and New York got hit with a big snowstorm.  As a result many of the ticket holders couldn’t get into town to see the show so there were a lot of seats available for “walk-ins”  So I took off work early that day and walked over to the studio and waited in line for about 40 minutes or so in hope of getting in,  And I did!  Regrettably the guest that day was lame but it was still fun to see the show live!   Thanks for the laughs Dave!
