Umpleby's Bakery & Café

I just saw on NPR’s website that Christopher Lee died.   I thought he made a great bad guy in Man with a Golden Gun and of course in the Star Wars franchise as Count Dooku.  And of course as Willie Wonka’s father.  We’ll be featuring a sandwich special tomorrow in his honor.  He had the great bad guy voice.    He was 93.  Pretty good run for the man with the Golden Gun.   Godspeed.

I have a cake on order for tomorrow and it is one that I have never done before.  It is for an expectant mother.  The neat thing about this cake is what the expectant mother asked us to do.  She doesn’t know the gender of the baby and the way she wants to find out is by cutting our cake and seeing what kind of filling we put in it.  It will be raspberry mousse if it’s a girl and pastry cream and blueberries if it is a boy.  We are receiving a sealed envelope from the hospital today with the news of the gender and we will make the cake accordingly.  I am honored that the expectant mother chose us as the bakers to be involved with this very special surprise!
