An Ode to the Orange Poppy Seed Cake

My wife, Carolyn loves this cake.  It is made with whole oranges that gives the finished result an intense bittersweet taste. The cake is rather dense and is topped with poured fondant and poppy seeds.  I learned how to make it while working at a small cafe in Melbourne, Australia. North Carlton to be exact, Rathdowne Street to be more exact,  The Rathdowne Street Foodstore to be really exact.  We’ll be making it hopefully in the Bakehouse this week. It’s a great winter time dessert!
